Process engineering

The AMMAG fluidized bed technology with its three main applications agglomeration, spray granulation and coating offers solutions for multitudinous products. All variants of process engineering are based on the two underlying mechanisms of spraying the liquid and swirling the solid matter. Both procedures together result in a very regular treatment of all individual particles.

  1. The fluidized bed unit is the heart of the plant. In this unit the processes of granulation and drying and/or coating take place.
  2. The air serving the purpose of fluidizing and drying is heated and dehumidified, if required, in the air conditioning unit.
  3. The liquid to be sprayed is treated here. The equipment required consists of at least a pump and a tank.
  4. Exhaust air treatment includes at least one filter, which is either installed in the fluidized bed device (as depicted) or arranged outside. Additionally, a second cleaning stage can be connected, which may be designed either as filter or as gas scrubber (depicted).
  5. The product discharged from the fluidized bed is usually sized, which may be effected either by external screening (depicted) or by sifting discharge. In case of batch processes only external sizing will be applied.
  6. In most cases the finished product is conveyed to packaging or storage.
  7. Of course, packaging is part of the overall plant.


The concept of appliances as developed by us is in compliance with the ATEX guidelines up to a dust class of ST3, and is in conformity with CE. Moreover, the nozzle design, the inflow bottom, the fluidized bed, the granulate discharge as well as the exhaust air cleaning system can be adapted to customer-specific requirements.

 

By swirling, each individual particle is surrounded by air, thus ensuring that the whole particle surface is available for the exchange of heat and material and that the solid matter is extensively mixed. Therefore, the fluidized bed technology has the following advantages:

  1. very regular treatment of all individual particles
  2. high efficiency of all drying, tempering and cooling processes
  3. very precise temperature control, no overheating of individual particles


Systems engineering

Independent of the kind of process or the desired product features, a fluidized bed system always consists of the following peripheral devices:



 

 

Fluidized bed

  • large surface
  • very good mixture (1 kg of sugar (400   µm)    - 20 mill. particles)
  • 10 m2 surface (1 litre of water ® 15 billion droplets) even spraying medium droplet size: approx. 50  µm
